The trip
Dwarka is the shortest of the great darshans from Jamnagar, and the one most of our guests finish in a single day: away after an early breakfast, temple by mid-morning, lunch near the ghat, home before the lights come on. The road is quick and four-lane for most of its length, so the day is spent in Dwarka rather than on the way to it. Give it a little more room and Nageshwar and Bet Dwarka fit in as well.
The road we take
West out of Jamnagar on NH-151A, through Khambhalia — the district town of Devbhoomi Dwarka, and the usual tea halt — and on past Bhatia towards the coast. Google Maps puts the run at about 141 km and a shade over two hours when the road is clear. Nageshwar and the Okha end of the bridge to Bet Dwarka lie beyond Dwarka town on the same road, so it is worth settling the order of the day before you set off.
Good to know
- November to February is the kindest weather here; the sea breeze takes the sting out of even a warm afternoon.
- Darshan pauses for about an hour from 8 am and again briefly around midday, so arriving at half past nine works better than arriving at a quarter past eight.
- Janmashtami fills the town completely — book the car weeks ahead and expect the last few kilometres to crawl.
- Nageshwar, Shivrajpur and the Okha bridge all lie beyond the town on the same road, so the sensible pattern is darshan first, then out along the coast, and home from there.
- If Bet Dwarka and the beach are both on the list, say so when you book: the day stretches, and most families prefer an Innova to a sedan for it.

What a day at Dwarka usually holds
Dwarkadhish Temple
The Jagat Mandir above the Gomti, its 43-metre spire carrying a flag of fifty-two yards that is changed several times a day. Darshan runs 6.30 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 9.30 pm, with the Mangla aarti at daybreak.
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga
One of the twelve jyotirlingas, about 18 km from town on the Okha road and open from dawn until dusk — easiest to fold in on the way back from the island.
Bet Dwarka
The island where Krishna is said to have lived. Its temple opens 7.30 am to noon and again 4.30 to 6 pm, and since February 2024 the 2.3 km Sudarshan Setu carries the car straight across from Okha, so the ferry is now a choice rather than the only way over.
Rukmini Devi Temple
Two kilometres from the main shrine and deliberately apart from it, a carved twelfth-century temple that most drivers suggest on the run out towards Nageshwar.
Shivrajpur Beach
Twelve kilometres up the Okha road, Gujarat's first Blue Flag beach, open 8 am to 7 pm for a small entry charge — clean sand and shallow water, and somewhere for children to run after the temple queue.
Sudama Setu
The footbridge over the Gomti creek below the temple, open 7 am to 1 pm and 4 to 7.30 pm. The five-minute walk across gives the best view of the ghats.

How long does Jamnagar to Dwarka take by taxi?
About two and a half hours each way in ordinary traffic. Google Maps measures the road at roughly 141 km and gives it a little over two hours; we quote the slower figure because there is usually a halt at Khambhalia and the last stretch into town is slow on festival days.
Can I visit Nageshwar and Bet Dwarka on the same day?
Yes, and most guests do. Both lie beyond Dwarka on the Okha road — Nageshwar about 18 km out, the bridge to Bet Dwarka a little further. The island temple shuts between noon and half past four, so the two halves of the day have to be planned around that gap.
Is a one-way drop to Dwarka possible?
It is, but the fares published here are round trips, because the car has to come back to Jamnagar whether you are sitting in it or not. Ask us for a one-way quote and we will work the empty return leg into it before you commit to anything.
